Vitamin C
Women trying to conceive should avoid taking supplemental vitamin C, except that contained in their prenatal vitamin. Many women, trying to bolster their immune system before pregnancy, or to avoid winter colds, begin taking megadoses of this vitamin. But vitamin C in large doses is an antihistamine, and can dry out cervical fluid, making it impossible for sperm to reach the egg. Just by limiting their vitamin C intake, many women experiencing infertility problems have gone on to conceive.

“The thoughtful treatment of the possible link between diet and fertility in The Infertility Diet: Get Pregnant and Prevent Miscarriage should stimulate the scientific community to examine this connection more closely.  It is important to recognize that the dietary strategies and lifestyle modifications in this book, if applied for a lifetime, may contribute to substantial benefits in preventing hypertension and heart diseases which are the leading causes of death in both women and men.” - Dr. Christopher O'Donnell, Cardiologist, Harvard Medical School
